The Elder Helpline, a service of Elder Options, is your starting point for seeking information and other kinds of assistance for seniors and their caregivers. The Elder Helpline is part of Florida’s Aging & Disability Resource Center network that provides callers with information, referrals, choices, and assistance in accessing the many services available to older adults, persons with disabilities, their caregivers, and family members.

Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP)

Florida’s Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP) assists households facing a home energy crisis (heating or cooling). To be eligible for assistance, households must have a documented heating emergency such as a delinquent bill or shut -off notice. Additionally, the gross household income must be less than 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. One member of the household must be age 60 or older to receive assistance.

Update July 1, 2026: Applying for Crisis Energy Assistance

If you or an older adult you know is facing a home energy crisis (such as a past-due notice or disconnection), please use one of the following options to apply for assistance:

  • Apply Online: Seniors can apply for LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program) crisis assistance directly through the Florida LIHEAP Online Portal. https://floridaliheap.com  The portal is mobile-friendly and allows applicants to complete and submit an application electronically.
  • Apply through Community Action Agency Seniors may also contact their local Community Action Agency (CAA), which serves as a LIHEAP subrecipient in their county. CAAs can assist with in-person applications and provide guidance on available crisis benefits. To find the local CAA serving a particular county, seniors or their caseworkers may contact FloridaCommerce or visit www.FloridaJobs.org/LIHEAPHelp for a directory of local providers.
