Charles Edward Miller, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024, in Lake City, Florida. Mr. Miller made Lake City his home for the past fifty years and spent many of those years helping the most vulnerable in our community. As Board President of Elder Options, he led our organization through significant transitions and growth.
Mr. Miller was deeply involved in advocating for seniors, even before the Department of Elder Affairs was created in 1988. His dedication to the community was evident in his role as Board President for Elder Options, where he guided our organization through significant transitions, including the establishment of the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). During his tenure, our staff grew from 30 to 70 people, we moved offices, and we purchased the facility that Elder Options uses today.
When asked about the most rewarding aspects of volunteering with Elder Options, Mr. Miller said, “We are very fortunate to have employees over the years with a level of expertise and knowledge. Their care and concern about the people that they’re helping is overwhelming. It’s the same way with the board. We’ve had some stellar people that I’ve worked with who have dedicated so many years…I feel honored to spend time and breathe air in the same room with some of these folks. It’s a wonderful feeling to look out on the board and say, ‘This is probably the best we’ve had, and that’s hard to beat.’ Our staff is just top-notch, and our leadership staff is just top-notch.”
Mr. Miller will be remembered for his leadership and commitment to helping seniors. His contributions to Elder Options and his community have left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
