Elder Options Celebrates AARP Recognition of Alachua County joining Age-Friendly States and Communities
We’re excited to share that AARP recently presented a recognition plaque to Alachua County and the Age-Friendly Alachua group. Jill Auld, Associate State Director of AARP Florida, and Claudia Tuck, Community Support Services Director, joined an Alachua County Board of Commissioners meeting to formally recognize our community for successfully completing a 5-year cycle of improvement. They commended Alachua County for its age-friendly leadership, achievements, and continuing commitment toward being a livable community for people of all ages.
Since Alachua County joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities in October 2019, Elder Options has been a proud partner in Age-Friendly Alachua, working alongside representatives from the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County (DOH-Alachua), Alachua County Government, and the Community Coalition of Older Adults (CCOA). The AARP Network promotes efforts to help people live easily and comfortably in their homes and communities as they age, encouraging older adults to take a more active role in their communities and have their voices heard through initiatives focused on housing, caregiving, community engagement, volunteering, social inclusion and combating isolation.
To join the network, Alachua County applied with support from County Commissioners and committed to assess the needs of older residents and create an action plan to address those needs. The 2019 Age-Friendly Alachua Action Plan was developed in alignment with the Alachua County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), and healthy aging priorities continue to be incorporated into the existing 2025-2029 Alachua County CHIP by community stakeholders.
Elder Options is honored to be part of this collaborative effort to make Alachua County a place where residents of all ages can live, grow, and age well.
