When it comes to staying independent at home, two things are essential: maintaining your physical balance and ensuring your body has the right fuel to stay resilient. On Tuesday, May 19 at 2:00 PM, we are bringing together a UF researcher and a community health specialist to discuss how vitamins, gut health, and movement work together to support healthy aging.
Meet the Experts

Dr. Bikash Sahay is a Research Associate Professor at the University of Florida. His work focuses on the “gut microbiome”—the community of microbes in our digestive system that plays a massive role in our overall health. Dr. Sahay will explain the latest science on how certain vitamins and a healthy gut can help reduce inflammation and keep our bodies stronger as we age. He’ll provide a clear look at how looking after your internal health is a key part of disease prevention.
Wendy Bonilla, MHA, leads the Healthy Aging division at Elder Options. As a certified instructor in Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, Wendy understands exactly how to help seniors stay steady and confident on their feet. She will share practical, everyday strategies to improve your balance and explain how movement can lead to better overall health outcomes.
What the Session Will Cover:
The Microbiome & Aging: How the health of your gut impacts your strength and resistance to illness.
The Role of Vitamins: Which specific nutrients support a healthy gut
Balance & Fall Prevention: Practical movements and Tai Chi-based tips to keep you steady.
Free Community Resources: How to access Wendy’s evidence-based health and diabetes education programs through Elder Options.
